After 11 consecutive losses and two straight playoff sweeps, the Los Angeles Angels had grown tired of being a bump in Boston’s road to the World Series. “I don’t ever want to hear about that streak again. Ever. It’s over,” center fielder Torii Hunter said Sunday night after the Angels beat the Red Sox 5-4 in 12 innings to force their first-round AL playoff series to a fourth game.

Thanks to John Danks and the White Sox, Chicago still has one team standing. For the second time in less than a week, Danks pitched a strong game to save the season as the White Sox beat Tampa Bay 5-3 Sunday and trimmed the Rays’ lead in the opening-round AL playoff series to 2-1. “If Danks loses in either game he pitches, we’re not here right now,” manager Ozzie Guillen said.

Facing a rugged Baltimore Ravens defense that still conjures unpleasant memories, Kerry Collins trotted onto the field needing to mount an 80-yard touchdown drive to keep the Tennessee Titans unbeaten. His first big play was to get hit in the helmet. Soon after that, Collins threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Alge Crumpler with 1:56 left to rally Tennessee to a 13-10 victory Sunday.

Dolphins hold on, beat Chargers 17-10 (AP)

With the Miami Dolphins threatening to score, running back Ronnie Brown waited in the single wing for a direct snap, his grin visible through his face mask. Winning can be fun, as the Dolphins are discovering. Brown was still grinning moments later when he reached the end zone. And he wore a smile in the locker room after Miami pulled off its second successive upset by beating San Diego 17-10.
