Sean O'Sullivan threw the pitch Marlon Byrd was expecting. And the Los Angeles Angels rookie starter still prevailed. Byrd, who had already doubled and homered to help Texas to a one-run lead, was too far ahead of a changeup and grounded into a double play to end the Rangers' fifth inning. He was a working-class kid from Pittsburgh, and he’d learned how to sell Wash-Matiks, mops, and salsa makers from hucksters on the Atlantic City boardwalk, old-timers who’d been at it for decades. Billy perfected his craft while criss-crossing the country with a ragtag band of his fellows, moving through county fairs and auto shows, making a living 20 bucks at a time.
