Family of slain Pata hosts football camp (AP)

Bryan Pata’s family hosted hundreds of children for a football clinic on Saturday, calling it another way to celebrate the slain Miami player’s life. Several players from Miami, including Hurricanes quarterback Jacory Harris, and FIU took part in the clinic, although very few of them ever met Pata, who was killed nearly four years ago.

Kent State beats Akron for MAC title (AP)

Anthony Simpson scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Kent State to a 74-61 win over Akron on Friday night. Rodriquez Sherman added 15 points and five assists for the Golden Flashes (23-8, 13-3 Mid-American Conference), who have won five games in a row. The win earned Kent State the 2010 Mid-American Conference title and an automatic bid to the post season.

Northern Iowa used a 29-2 run to rally and knock off Drake 55-40 in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Friday. The top-seeded Panthers (26-4) will face the winner of the Bradley-Creighton contest in the semifinals Saturday. Adam Koch, the MVC Player of the Year, had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Northern Iowa.
