Vols turn down game against Kiffin, USC (AP)

Tennessee has turned down a chance to face Southern California and coach Lane Kiffin in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Volunteers athletic director Mike Hamilton said Wednesday he’s been approached several times by Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan about a potential 2011 matchup in Atlanta.

N. Iowa uses 29-2 run to win MVC opener (AP)

Northern Iowa used a 29-2 run to rally and knock off Drake 55-40 in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Friday. The top-seeded Panthers (26-4) will face the winner of the Bradley-Creighton contest in the semifinals Saturday. Adam Koch, the MVC Player of the Year, had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Northern Iowa.

Iowa DE Clayborn pleads to lesser charge (AP)

Iowa’s all-Big Ten defensive end Adrian Clayborn has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a case involving a taxi driver. The 21-year-old from St. Louis was originally charged with assault causing bodily injury after he allegedly punched the driver on Jan. 19, 2009, when the cabbie honked at him. Online court records show Clayborn pleaded guilty Wednesday to disorderly conduct.

Ga. Tech QB transferring to Ga. Southern (AP)

Georgia Tech backup quarterback Jaybo Shaw is transferring to Georgia Southern and will be eligible to play for the Eagles in 2010. Georgia Tech confirmed Shaw’s plans on Monday. Shaw will play for new Georgia Southern coach Jeff Monken, who was an assistant at Georgia Tech the last two years. Shaw will have two years of eligibility at Georgia Southern.

Brandon Roy learned from Portland's loss on Christmas last season, so he pared down his holiday schedule to make sure he was prepared to face Denver this year. He sure looked ready.
