A lawyer for a New York woman who has denied having an affair with Tiger Woods has canceled a news conference that had been scheduled for Thursday in Los Angeles. Attorney Gloria Allred says the news conference has been canceled due to what she terms unforeseen circumstances. Allred tells The Associated Press in a brief telephone interview that there will be no further statements on the matter.

Former Pittsburgh coach Fazio dies at 71 (AP)

Foge Fazio, who succeeded Jackie Sherrill as the football coach at alma mater Pittsburgh and later was a defensive coordinator for the NFL's Vikings and Browns, died Wednesday night following a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was 71. Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson confirmed Fazio's death while attending the Pitt-Duquesne basketball game on Wednesday night.

Darius Miller kept waiting for John Calipari to lose it. Standing in the huddle on Monday night with No. 4 Kentucky trailing red-hot Miami (Ohio) by 18, the sophomore forward kept waiting for his coach to drop the player-friendly approach and start testing the physical limits of his clipboard. There was no tirade, the Wildcats got something else entirely.

When Oklahoma State's current senior class arrived on campus, it was with the promise of better days. Eagles LB Gaither out for season (AP)

Eagles coach Andy Reid says linebacker Omar Gaither will have surgery on left foot and will miss the rest of the season. Gaither suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Oakland Raiders. He is the second Eagles middle linebacker to be lost for the season — Stewart Bradley was placed on injured reserve after tearing an ACL in a preseason scrimmage.

Michael Vick will be giving the public an inside look at his life during an eight-part television series scheduled to debut on BET next year. Tentatively titled "The Michael Vick Project," the cable show will follow the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback as he tries to redeem himself after going to prison for 18 months for his role in operating a dogfighting ring.

DA dismisses case against Merriman (AP)

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis on Friday dismissed reality TV star Tila Tequila's accusations that San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman choked her and threw her to the ground early Sunday while she was trying to leave his suburban home. Merriman was arrested after Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant accusing Merriman of battery and false imprisonment.
